(Poem) Belgian Upper Paleolithic Bear Cult by Robin Scofield

RS Rod-Vinca-Bear-Mother

Early modern humans

stepped over bear bones,

finding a niche for each

of the red ochre bear skulls

painted by hand, eye

sockets turned outward

in the Mother Bear cave,

den of the Great Goddess.

Put a bear skin cape

over the figurine, clay

doll broken beside the fire.

Safe from the bears

in winter, they worship

this Mother of Animals.
