(Poem & Art) Mother Whale by Alex Purbrick

dance of the mother whales, art by Alex Purbrick

Mother love swims deep in my ocean of tears,

Singing salt songs to soothe my fears.

Boundaries are blurry between earth, sea and sky

For I become Her and She becomes I.

Our hearts beat as One,

As our bodies birth

Babies that leap and play in the surf.

She sings songs of love from whale tribes of old.

I echo her voice

Fearless and bold.

We are Mothers

Whose songs bring life and rebirth.

Yet somehow our voice carries no worth

In a world where mothers are no longer heard,

Whale songs considered crazy, weird and absurd.

Yet I swim through this madness

As I hear loud and clear

Mother whales swimming holding me dear.
