(Poem) Phoebe by Donna Snyder

for Phibby Venable

Titan of prophecy and moonlight, daughter of Earth and Sky, mother of the stars and that which is hidden. Through her came the Sun and Moon, the bright and shining ones.

You can find her at the crossroad between death and life. She takes horror and makes it beauty. Oracles run in her blood. Deer offer themselves at her door, follow her into The wooded mountains. Wolves stand guard from afar. She takes sorrow and makes it glow.

She has the bones of a generous woman. She scries the ultimate outcome from blue water. Dogs gather around her feet. She paints time’s death with song.

[Author’s Note: “Phoebe” will be in my book, As Meaningful As Any Other,  forthcoming from Gutter Snob Books in July 2022.]
