Some sisters are bound by blood

familial ties, heart songs harmonized by umbilical memories.

Other sisters enrich our lives

as friends, lovers, classmates, coworkers

in-laws, artists, scholars, truth-tellers.

Each sister-bond sustains us through hard times,

celebrates with us in joyful times.

Sisters provide safe harbor

in times of peril and sorrow.

We dance, laugh, and sing

reveling in our happiness

We share our life stories,

discovering our limitless possibilities.

United we stand,

steadfast and true,

sisters-in-arms, heart-to-heart, shoulder-to-shoulder

in circles of equals

no one up, no one down,

moving forward together

powered by uterine strength

blessed by the blood

of our ancient wombs
