Every morning, before I take a sip
of my Earl Grey tea,
I give thanks to my ancestors,
and to all creatures great and small,
all water great and small,
all vegetation great and small,
in gratitude to the Dea Madre,
the Mother of us all.
I thank Her, the Creatrix who births our souls,
who blesses us with
food, water, shelter, air, sun,
moon, stars, a planet to call home.
I begin each day remembering Her
and all She provides to the whole, wide,
spectacular Matriverse.
I honor my ancestors, too,
my kin whose sacrifices
paved the way for me and my life.
Before I take my last sip of tea,
I reserve some of my morning brew
for my familial spirits—and for Her.
I raise my mug of tea in gratitude,
my thankful heart full
as I pay tribute to all
that is greater than my individual self,
yet all that I am innately a vital part of
cradled as I am in my ancestors’ loving embrace
and Her loving arms.
I reaffirm my vow to fight
for justice with compassion,
equality for all,
to never forget my great-greats, my grands,
my mother, father, aunts, and uncles
whose DNA I share,
and to always, always honor
the benevolence of Her,
the Divine Mother,
Dea Madre,
Creatrix of all that is.
