(Art) Namaste, from the Initiation Series by Glen Rogers

Namaste Initiation Series, oil on panel, by Glen Rogers

Namaste is one of three paintings from my recent Initiation series focusing on women’s spirituality and ritual. All of the works are steeped in symbolism associated with the Goddess. In this image, she is offering up her prayers and gratitude. A bindi, the small colored dot between the eyes worn by Hindu women in India (and other religions/countries), is considered the point at which creation begins and is also described as “the sacred symbol of the cosmos in its unmanifested state”. A pink lotus gently opens over her Yoni to acknowledge her sexuality and sensuality, her woman-ness. Spirals, symbols of renewal and regeneration, cover her body while circles, symbols of wholeness representing our place in the Universe, fill the space around her.

The three paintings evolved in shades of blue – a color associated with spiritual realization according to Kate Smith, an internationally recognized color expert on her https://www.sensationalcolor.com/ website. She says “blue conjures images of sky and sea, it’s also the color of bravery and dedication. Blue represents introspective journeys and symbolizes wisdom and depth of understanding.”

Each painting is 23” x 19”, Oil on wood panel. To see the rest of the series, visit my website: https://www.glenrogersart.com/figurative-paintings
